VISUAL MOTOR INTEGRATION
This is what is commonly know as Eye-Hand and Eye-Body coordination. It is the ability of the visual system to assess its surrounding environment and tell the gross and fine motor systems how to navigate and direct itself with accuracy in it's movements. This skill is involved in the initial visual assessment of a situation and in helping with corrective action if a movement taken is inaccurate. This all has a direct impact on an individuals balance and coordination. A child with poor Eye-Body skills may have trouble in sports, riding a bike or handling themselves with smooth dexterity. A child with poor Eye-Hand coordination may have poor handwriting and take longer to complete written assignments, which in turn leads to frustration and less time spent on that task.
